What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun
Or fester like a sore—

And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—

Like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

its a strange feeling, to have existed for 18 years but only lived two. got a feeling that before rjc, i was just... going about the place, seeing things, having things done to me. only got self-awareness last year, after some big shocks. and then it does seem that everyone has a 16-year headstart on me sometimes on the things that have to be learnt, but are not taught in school =p

it took more balls to pull out of in front of 1.3 billion who were looking to you to become their hero. they told you that it would have been better if you had run yourself to death but death would have been the easy way out. it takes more courage to preserve your legs and endure that which follows, to tell the world 'not yet, give me four more years and i will show you what i can do'

for all those who think he should have continued, why don't you try it.

today ihc 1500m, 5.20. 10s pb but still lost to kennedy and kenneth =p nvm was dying at the last bit already so couldn't up when kenneth made his move in the last 300m. probably started too fast 'cause of the adrenaline, was looking at the guy next to me and thinking 'hey why is he going so slowly?' - paid for it later though

haha the last lap was a strange feeling. my hands and toes were numb because all the blood was being diverted to the legs. blood was probably diverted away from the head too 'cause i was starting to get tunnel vision in the last 100m, the thing when your vision reduces to pinpoints of light surrounded by darkness. elton said my arms pumped harder but that didn't seem to have any effect on speed - but then again i wasn't thinking straight by then.

thing is i actually kinda enjoyed the feeling. and even the feeling at the end when the lactic acid in your legs prevents them from doing anything useful (like walking/standing)

anyway thanks to 3O for coming down to watch =D i couldn't have whacked so hard without you guys' support. hard to give up when ppl shout your name =p 8th or 9th place but... there are worse ways to get 8th or 9th place.

Come In From The Cold
Joni Mitchell

Back in 1957
We had to dance a foot apart
And they hawk-eyed us from the sidelines
Holding their rulers without a heart
And so with just a touch of our fingers
I could make our circuitry explode
All we ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(we were so young)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold

We really thought we had a purpose
We were so anxious to achieve
We had hope
The world held promise
For a slave to liberty
Freely I slaved away for something better
And I was bought and sold
And all I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(we were so sure)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold

I feel your leg under the table
Leaning into mine
I feel renewed
I feel disabled
By these bonfires in my spine
I dont know who the arsonist was
Which incendiary soul
But all I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(you were so warm)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold

I am not some stone commission
Like a statue in a park
I am flesh and blood and vision
I am howling in the dark
Long blue shadows of the jackals
Are falling on a pay phone by the road
Oh all they ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(I was so low)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold

Is this just vulgar electricity
Is this the edifying fire
(it was so pure)
Does your smiles covert complicity
Debase as it admires
(just a flu with a temperature)
Are you just checking out your mojo
(oohoo)
Or am I just fighting off growing old
(just a high fever)
All I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(it was so pure)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold

I know we never will be perfect
Never entirely clear
(when the moon shines)
We get hurt and we just panic
And we strike out
Out of fear
(you were only being kind)
I fear the sentence of this solitude
200 years on hold
(for my loving crime)
Oh and all we ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(when the moon shines)
Oh come in
Come in from the cold

When I thought life had some purpose
Then I thought I had some choice
(I was running blind)
And I made some value judgments
In a self-important voice
(I was outa line)
But then absurdity came over me
And I longed to lose control
(into no mind)
Oh all I ever wanted
Was just to come in from the cold

Come in
Come in from the cold
(you were so kind)
Please come in
(so kind)
Come in from the cold
